You're not paying for bots to stream your music. In terms of "guaranteeing x amount of streams" that's likely because a particular playlist has x amount of monthly listeners, so statistically getting on that playlist means you'll get a certain amount of streams out of it based on the amount of people tuning into that playlist every month. I don't think anyone in a band with serious efforts towards making a career out of it would think that any of that is morally wrong. Bands that want to grow are naturally going to come to a point where they consider paying for marketing which includes ad campaigns, playlist inclusions, blog features, etc. Intuitively, it makes sense to allow artists to get as big as possible to attract more streams (from real people and not bots). In fact, the more streams their service gets from all artists, the more money they make. A company can state whatever they want for their terms of service, but it doesn't mean it's morally right or wrong, objectively. You used to be able to beat your wife, or own slaves (in america), I think we'd all agree that's objectively wrong whether it was law or not. Just because it's a law, doesn't mean it's right. Well you have to think in a different perspective. Block Payments on SUSPICIOUS tracks/albums Then after a big wave of Customer complaints (I was part of the petition actioning a reversal from Spotify, and we got 50K signatures) Spotify did something instead of REMOVING the whole Music Portfolio from DISTROS, what they did was: This is when Spotify, publicly shames BOTTERS and FARMS, and shook hands with local authority to BUST or bring down Spotify Farms or Botters. What happened was, SPOTIFY reported the affected artists and songs, to their DISTROs, and instructed them to REMOVE the whole Music Portfolio, instead of the Suspicious tracks instead WHILE holding on to ROYALTIES. TuneCore, Routenote, UnitedMasters, Spinnup. Then shortly after: Other Distro's chimed in. Last years, Spotify Cleaned up - then it trickled down to Distros, with DK being one of the PUBLIC ones to delete or remove songs.
